Vectis Via Vado - 26.6 miles
A celebration of the island’s Roman heritage.A short, medium and long distance walking event, ideally for teams of four or more, or in relay teams.The 26.6-mile route will start at the County Show Ground and snake its way across the island to Brading Roman Villa.It is free to enter, with no fundraising commitments. The entire route is virtually flat, so is accessible for all and wheelchair users will be most welcome.
Joggers and runners are also invited to get involved.
Roman fancy dress will be encouraged, as will the use of Roman names.
The first stop is Merstone Railway Station, then Peddlers Cafe before reaching Brading Roman Villa where the walk returns on the same route.
What does Vectis Via Vado MMXXV mean?
Vectis is the ancient Roman name given for the Isle of Wight.
Via is the Latin word for ‘road or way’.
Vado is the Latin word for ‘go, hasten or rush’.
MMXXV are the Roman numerals for 2025 – the first year of the event.
Certificates will be awarded to all participants. Prizes will be awarded to each of the following:
- The most inspiring achievements by any five teams
- The fastest team of walkers to complete the half and whole distances
- The fastest team of runners to complete the whole distance
- The fastest team of over 60s to complete the half and whole distances
- The fastest team of under 18s to complete the half and whole distances
- The fastest team of under 12’s to complete the half and whole distances
- The fastest relay team to complete the full distance
- The most popular fancy dressed team
- The fastest team in sandals!
