About this event
This is a special, fundraising event. The Black Market are donating their time to help us raise funds for our community cookery groups. Thank you all for your support!
The Black Market will open a 1940s themed restaurant and burlesque bar in Brighton later this year, and you can find them doing pop-ups, festivals and markets across the city. Their founder will share her favourite plant-based & free-from dinner party recipes, including tips on professional presentation and flavour pairings for drinks to enjoy alongside. This event is part of Bite Sussex Food Festival.
You will work in pairs to create and enjoy a special seasonal menu including:
- Start with an amuse bouche on arrival - Roasted Carrot soup. Wild garlic pesto (Drink pairing - Ginger cordial or Stone’s Ginger Wine)
- Beetroot salad: Candied & red beetroot. Radish. Chicory. Spring onion. (Drink pairing - Homemade lemonade or a classic gin & tonic.)
- Homity pie. Seasonal veg salad. (Drink pairing - Sacchetto Col de L'Utia Prosecco Brut)
- Rhubarb ice cream on orange sponge cake. Candy daffodils. (Drink pairing - Elderflower mocktail or 'Above my pay grade' Gin. Elderflower liqueur. Prosecco. Lime.)
About the Black Market: The Black Market offer an entirely plant based and ‘free from’ menu - none of the 14 allergens outlined by the Food Standards Agency are used in their recipes. They also celebrate seasonal, local produce and take inspiration from the World War 2 values of ‘Dig for Victory’ and ‘Make Do & Mend’, whilst still providing luxury dishes and delicious drinks alongside entertainment from local burlesque performers.
