Event description

Description

Veganuary is a charity inspiring people to try vegan for January and throughout the rest of the year.

As a UK Registered, Veganuary is dedicated to changing public attitudes, while providing all the information and practical support required to make the transition to veganism as easy and enjoyable as possible. Veganuary has had an incredible degree of success in a very short time and is changing lives all over the world.

In a blog post on 2017, Matthew estimated that “for every £ spent, 108 animals are spared from ever having to go through the suffering of animal agriculture” (see link below). There are some limitations to this calculation, but there is nevertheless a case that Veganuary is one of the most effective charities for reducing animal suffering in the world. Matthew will make this case at the talk!

This talk is ideal for *everyone* who agrees that non-human animal suffering matters, whatever their beliefs or diet. It will be followed by a question and answer session.

We will also have tables by Animal Charity Evaluators, The Humane League - UK, Animal Equality and Effective Altruism London where you can find out about other ways to get involved for reducing animal suffering effectively, before and after the talk.

Matthew Glover is the co-founder of Veganuary. After being vegetarian for 10 years, Matthew watched ‘the video the meat industry doesn’t want you to see’ and was shocked to see the cruel realities behind the dairy and egg industries. He then went vegan. And now he wants the whole world to join him! Veganuary is Matthew’s solution to making veganism an easy and tasty experience for everyone. He is interested in both human and animal rights causes, having been a trustee of Heal (a charity which supports underprivileged children in India). He is also the Chairman of the FIT Show - the UK's only exhibition for the window and door industry.

Effective Altruism London is a group dedicated to applying reason and evidence to doing the most good. We regularly host speakers to talk about the biggest problems facing the world and the future, and the best potential ways to tackle them. Like our page to keep up to date with our latest events. Join the group for Effective Animal Altruism London if you are interested in reducing animal suffering.
