"Vegetarianism: The Story So Far" Launch Party
Sun 17 January 2016, 16:00 – 19:00 GMT
Where did today's vegetarian and vegan movements come from? How far back in history can these strands of compassion be traced?
"Vegetarianism: The Story So Far" is a radio documentary series that starts right at the beginning - in iron age India and Greece - and tracks the story of the ideas that inspired vegetarians around the world right up to the present.
This launch party is the first chance to hear it. "Ahimsa" - non-violence - is a defining feature of many Indian religions and has inspired Europeans to eschew meat since Alexander stood by the Indus. But where does the idea come from?
After two years of interviews and research, the first episode is ready to emerge blinking into the daylight. There'll be a chance to ask the producer about the project too.
We'll gather in the chapel at 4pm, bringing our food, and become the first people in the world to hear it at 5pm.
