Event description

Description

The Shape Of Stillness: An Evening Of Dance and Conversation

Fluid movements juxtaposed with linear shapes. Complex rhythm punctuated with stillness. The Shape Of Stillness is a solo classical Indian dance that explores cosmic geometry. The dancer’s body expresses the movement of creation from a still point into complex patterns and back into stillness.

Vena Ramphal’s training in Classical Indian Dance and yogic meditation started as a child. The Shape Of Stillness is a celebration of these traditions and their ability to express the deeper dimensions of life.

The dance performance will be followed by a conversation with Vena Ramphal and a guest speaker. The discussion will focus on the spirituality inherent in classical Indian dance, especially its links with yoga.

This evening’s guest speaker is Rama Gheerawo Director, Royal College Of Art’s Helen Hamlyn Centre For Design. Rama is trained in Classical Indian music and is a yoga practitioner. He is passionate about making wellbeing available to people across the world.
