Event description
Safe & Supported watersports sessions with Venturing Out. Fun and splashy session on the water trying out kayaks, canoes and paddleboards!

About this event

Come and join us for a Paddlesports Session at Musselburgh Lagoons. You will be able to try out kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding and have lots of fun in the water. This is a family based session where everyone can come and take part and share in the experience in a safe and supported environment.

We know the last year will have been very difficult for you all so we are very excited to get back out onto the water with you again and have some fun!

All sessions will follow required COVID-19 guidelines and we are happy to chat with you beforehand about any worries and concerns.

  • If any member of the family is displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, they should not attend

Please Note - Ideally we need an adult on the water from each family. We understand that this is not possible for all - if you are not able to go on the water with your child, please contact us after booking to discuss. We can look at the level of ability across all sessions and move you to a session where we are able to give your child more support on the water.

We have weekend and Friday afternoon sessions available.

These sessions are for children with additional support needs, living in East Lothian, and their families. They are suitable for children who are unable to access mainstream activities.

This provision is supported by East Lothian Council and is run in partnership with East Lothian Council's Outdoor Learning Service.

Is there a minimum age requirement?

This session is suitable for children aged 6 and above. However, children under the age of 8 must be have a parent in a boat with them.

How many siblings can we bring to the session?

In order to keep the sessions manageable, and within guidelines, no more than 2 siblings can attend with the main participant

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is a car park at Musselburgh Lagoons. You access it from the road access to Levenhall Links Leisure Park from the B1348. The access road is quite bumpy so please drive carefully.

Do we need to bring anything?

We will provide all of the equipment required for getting on the water. Please bring a pair of shoes that you don't mind getting wet. If you have your own wetsuit, you are welcome to bring it. Remember to wear a swimsuit and to pack a towel. Bring a full change of warm clothes and change of shoes for afterwards.

Suncream is recommended on warm and sunny days.

I am worried about getting my child into a boat?

We have a  range of adapted seats that can be fitted to the boats to make the experience easier or you and your child. Our team of experienced volunteers will always be on hand to help and support you on the day. We are happy to discuss any concerns in advance - please email

Are there toilet facilities?

There are no toilet facilities at the Lagoons.

Tickets are sold out for this event - what can I do?

If the tickets are sold out, please email and you will be added to a waiting list. The name at the top of this list will be offered first refusal on any spaces that come available. This list will be offered first refusal on the next dates that are released.
