Event description
A rehearsed-read performance by actors from the S.T.R.’s ‘POEL WORKSHOPS’.

About this Event

Fancy hearing a reading of Shakespeare’s ‘Venus and Adonis’? Well leave your Victorian values at home as this is not a poem for the easily shocked!

Hugely popular - and reprinted 9 times in his life - ‘Venus & Adonis’ is adapted from the classical story, drawing inspiration from Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses’.

Dedicated to his close friend Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton, Shakespeare’s version casts Adonis as a youth more interested in hunting boar than hunting women, and presents an unfolding drama of “What happens when the Goddess of Love falls in love herself?”

Read by professional actors and graduates of the rigorous POEL WORKSHOPS, this performance is open to the public and is the first of its kind presented by The Society for Theatre Research.

Book your place in advance for just £4! Tickets can be purchased on the door but will cost an additional £1.
