Manchester's award-winning spoken word event - every last Monday of the month at The King's Arms! Verbose brings a vibrant mix of spoken word and live literature from a talented bill of open mic acts and wonderful headliners. Expect poetry, prose and everything in between from a real community vibe that gladly welcomes all newcomers.
Tickets are FREE at the point of service but donation tickets are available and greatly appreciated! Our Open Mic bill is now FULL for this event.
HEADLINERS
BETTY DOYLE
Betty Doyle is a poet living and working in Merseyside. Her work has been published in Poetry Wales, Butcher's Dog, Agenda, and And Other Poems, and commissioned for anthologies such as Un(Mother), Performing Maternities, and The ART of Infertility: An Anthology of Patient Narrative and ART.
Most recently, she placed second in BRAG magazine's inaugural poetry prize. She is currently studying for a PhD in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University, researching women's infertility poetry. Girl Parts is her debut poetry pamphlet, published by Verve Poetry Press.
DAVE VINEY
A multiple poetry slam winner, workshop facilitator, youth worker and guest at poetry nights and festivals across the UK - Dave Viney has written and performed for BBC Manchester Radio, written and performed two well-received shows at the Lowry Theatre as part of the Working Verse Collective, was the 2013 Poet Laureate of Kendal Calling Festival and released his debut collection ‘A Poet Called Dave’ in 2015 with Flapjack Press.
Commissioned to write and perform at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the World Taekwondo Championships at Manchester Arena in May 2019, televised live on BT Sport. His second poetry collection ‘In Orbit, Back Soon’ was published in December 2021.
