Manchester's award-winning spoken word event - every last Monday of the month at The King's Arms! Verbose brings a vibrant mix of spoken word and live literature from a talented bill of open mic acts and wonderful headliners. Expect poetry, prose and everything in between from a real community vibe that gladly welcomes all newcomers.
Tickets are FREE at the point of service but donation tickets are available and greatly appreciated! Our open mic bill is now FULL for this event.
HEADLINERS
David Gaffney lives in Manchester. He is the author of several books including Sawn-Off Tales (2006), Aromabingo (2007), Never Never (2008), The Half-Life of Songs (2010), More Sawn-Off Tales (2013), All The Places I’ve Ever Lived (2017) and graphic novel The Three Rooms In Valerie’s Head (2018). He has written articles for the Guardian, Sunday Times, Financial Times and Prospect magazine. His novel Out Of The Dark is out on Confingo in January 2022 and his graphic novel, Rivers, is out now on Top Shelf. See www.davidgaffney.org for more.
Carla Mellor is a Wigan-based Yorkshire poet who writes 'poetry for the people'; accessible, down to earth, and relatable poems for the everyday. In 2020 Carla worked on commissions for the BBC and her debut poetry collection SCRAPS was published in 2021 by Wrecking Ball Press.
