This class will take you step by step through the process of making your own vest/camisole/singlet. The garment can be made from jersey fabric or by reusing unwanted T-shirts, you will be shown how to do both.
We will begin by preparing the printed pattern, choosing the correct size and cutting the pieces out. Next we will construct the main body of the vest using an overlocker (no previous overlocker experience necessary) and hemming it using a normal sewing machine. Will we then finish the top edges and make the straps using underwear elastic. By the end of this class, not only will you have a great useful garment to wear, you will also have the pattern and know how to construct it, so you will be able to make hundreds of vests at home!!!
You will need to bring:
- 1 metre of jersey fabric (T-shirt weight, with or without elastane/lycra content)
- and/or some large unwanted T-shirts (preferably men's or size large)
We will provide:
- multisized vest pattern, UK sizes 8 to 16, that you can take home and make countless more vests
- a print out of instructions to take home
- sewing machines and overlockers
- all equipment you will need
Underwear elastic can be difficult to find in sewing shops and haberdashers. Because of this, a range of suitable underwear elastic will be available to purchase at the class for a small additional cost.
The class is appropriate for beginner and intermediate level sewers but you must have had previous experience of using a sewing machine.
This class will take place at Super+Super HQ, Brighton http://supersuperhq.com/
