Vet Nursing Vision Event - London (afternoon session)

VN Futures is sponsoring and supporting a series of RCVS engagement events during 2025, which aim to strengthen the role of veterinary nurses in team-based veterinary healthcare. This is the first derivative project to result from the ‘VN Vision’ work that the RCVS carried out during 2024.

This is an in-person event, and we invite attendance from all practice team members. Whether you are a veterinary nurse, veterinary surgeon, practice support staff, director, manager, or practice owner, your input will be essential in gaining a broad view across a range of perspectives.

Details about the event

This RCVS-led project, ‘A vision or a necessity: strengthening the role of veterinary nurses in team-based veterinary healthcare’, will explore how veterinary nurses can be more effectively integrated within multidisciplinary teams, and why doing so is essential for the future of veterinary healthcare.

Data gathered from our 2024 VN Vision workshops, as detailed in our recently published VN Vision Snapshot report, showed that many nurses believed their 'skills and capabilities, and the scope of tasks that can be performed within the current legal framework, are not fully utilised'. This new project aims to gather insights and empower nurses to play a more central role in the sector.

This event is open to the entire veterinary practice team. We are keen for veterinary surgeons, practice managers, and support staff to attend these events as well as RVNs, so please do invite your entire team along.

Meaningful change

Informed by conversations with professionals across the sector and a deep understanding of current practice, this project recognises that achieving meaningful change requires more than new policies; it calls for a fundamental cultural shift. Clear guidance, structured support, and open dialogue will be key in empowering veterinary teams to adapt to a new way of working.

An additional crucial element of this initiative will focus on enhancing public understanding of the Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) role, alongside support for developing stronger interprofessional and public-facing communication.

Workshop format

Using a theory of change framework, this project will convene stakeholders from across the UK in a series of in-person workshops. These sessions will define the long-term goals, identify the practical steps needed to achieve them, and determine how success will be measured and shared with the wider profession and public.

The workshops will be relatively small groups, informal, informative, and fun, and offer you the opportunity to share and learn about the variety of viewpoints that feed into this picture.

This is more than a conversation – it’s a national effort to strengthen the RVN role through collaboration, clarity, and confidence. For the profession, with the profession.

We are hosting two daytime sessions at our new Hardwick Street offices in London on the same day – one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Please only sign up for one. This is the registration page for the afternoon workshop. Please only sign up for one session.

A networking lunch is included for all delegates on the day – this will take place at 12.30pm, so delegates from both sessions will be able to eat and chat together.
