Who is the day for?

This day is for Sexual Health Advisers and other healthcare professionals dealing with patients who are impacted by trauma.

What does the day cover?

· What is trauma

· Trauma and the brain

· Facilitating a trauma-informed consultation

· Recognising a trauma response

· Stabilisation techniques

· Recognising the signs of vicarious trauma

· How to avoid vicarious trauma

· Letting go of the trauma you have taken in

· Self care

This training aims to equip professionals with tools to recognise and compassionately deal with trauma responses in others. This will include practical advice about how to conduct trauma-informed consultations. The training will also equip participants with the skills to recognise and manage the indirect emotional impact of other's trauma and explore how to stay well whilst supporting others. Tools and strategies for self care will be explored, including basic mindfulness techniques. The training will combine some psycho-educational teaching, discussion-based learning and practical demonstration of tools and techniques.
