Lawyers who regularly deal with traumatic accounts of client experiences are at risk of developing Vicarious Trauma, where you experience the same effects of trauma as your clients.

She also works with a mental health charity to deliver specialist support and mental health awareness training. She recently completed a Master’s degree in psychology, researching secondary traumatic stress in the legal profession.

Rachel Francis (Claiming Space) is a barrister practising in immigration and family law at One Pump Court Chambers. She is the former co-chair of Young Legal Aid Lawyers. During her time as co-chair, Rachel saw first-hand the effects of working with trauma in the legal profession. She was jointly responsible for the strategic direction of the group and for co-ordinating it’s campaigning, promoting social mobility and protecting the interests of junior lawyers who believe in the importance of legally-aided work as a means of achieving social justice.

Anna Robinson (Anna Robinson Therapy) retrained as a counsellor and psychotherapist following a long career as a senior immigration solicitor in the City. She has since practiced in both careers; working with a range of emotional issues in her private and charity therapy practices and leading wellbeing initiatives at a highly acclaimed boutique law firm. As a Mental Health First Aider, Ambassador and Instructor, Anna supports individuals and employers with mental health concerns and teaches mental health awareness. Anna is passionate about therapy and emotional wellbeing and has a particular interest in the intricacies of trauma. www.annarobinsontherapy.com
