About this event

A tour exploring two contrasting examples of Victorian architecture on Parkgate Road. Meeting at the entrance to the University of Chester's historic Chapel.

An introduction to two of Parkgate Road’s most beautiful Victorian buildings, this illustrated talk and tour explores the visual language of Victorian Architecture. By comparing the University Chapel, a religious building, and the John Douglas designed Vicarage, a domestic one, it’s possible to explore Victorian social attitudes, and why a technologically advanced society looked back to the medieval era for inspiration.

Meeting Point: University of Chester Chapel, Exton Park, Parkgate Road, Chester, CH1 4BJ.
