Event description

Description

Classes/Groups will be take around the house and will hear stories on how Christmas was celebrated in the past, in a rich household such as Temple Newsam House. Pupils will contrast this with how Christmas is celebrated today and will be told about Emily Meynell Ingram, the last female owner of the house who celbrated Christmas in the Victorian times. They will discover that a number of the Christmas traditions we celebrate today come from this time.

Depending on age children will be involved in various Victorian Christmas activities inlcuding parlour games, creating a Victorian Christmas menu, role play, handling objects, dance, singing carols and making Christmas crafts to take back to school.

This is a wonderful setting where children can be immersed in the atmosphere of the house with its vast Christmas tree, decorated traditionally and natural garlands of holly and ivy arranged around the house. A definite must to get you all in the festive spirit. A visit from Santa can even be arranged!
