Event description

Description

Vincent's Brixton

In 1873, a twenty-year-old art dealer from the Netherlands took lodgings at 87 Hackford Road, London. He shared his accommodation with his landlady, Ursula Loyer, her daughter Eugenie, and another lodger, Samuel Plowman. Little did Ursula Loyer know that her new tenant would be remembered as one of the greatest artists in living history: he was none other than Vincent van Gogh.

One hundred and forty-six years later, the Van Gogh House and Pulp Rocket Theatre are pleased to announce that the newly-renovated 87 Hackford Road will be the venue for Vincent’s Brixton.

Weaving together Van Gogh’s letters with scenes from Nicholas Wright’s acclaimed play Vincent In Brixton originally set at Hackford Road, Pulp Rocket Theatre’s site-specific production is a thought-provoking imagining of Van Gogh’s relationship with the Loyers and his family, and an intimate portrayal of the artist’s time in London.

About your visit

• 87 Hackford Road is a Grade II private residence with stairs and narrow passageways, and we regret that wheelchair or step free access is not possible.

Many of the floors are made of original timbers so we do not permit high heels in the house.

Parking around the house is limited so please plan accordingly if you are driving to the house. Our nearest tube stations are Stockwell and Oval

• Due to the historic nature of the house and artwork within, we ask that all children under 16 are accompanied by an adult.
