For our October Event
Vinylsessions Present
Kate Bush and the Iconic 1985 album Hounds of Love.
This was Kate’s fifth studio album released in September 1985, It was very much a commercial and artistic success and brought Bush back into the spotlight after the relatively low sales of her previous album, The Dreaming prior in 1982.
The album's lead single Running up that Hill became Bush's biggest hit, initially peaking at no. 3 upon its original 1985 release but later giving Bush her second UK No 1 single in June 2022 on re-release. The album's first side produced three further singles - Cloud Bursting, Hounds of Love and The Big Sky all of which reached the UK Top 40. The second side subtitled The Ninth Wave forms is more “conceptual” about a woman drifting alone in the sea at night. It has also been suggested this was also inspired by Kate’s genuine fear of drowning, this side is quite a deep listen!
We also bring along a 1986 pressing of “The Story so Far” and earlier we can spin hits such as Wuthering Heights, Babooshka, Man with the Child in His Eyes, Wow etc
For an 80s classic album our Audio Menu is a cracker – 1984 Linn Sondek LP12 with AT MC Cartridge, 1985 Harman Kardon PM655 Amplifier, and we cheat a bit for speakers with Wharfedale’s excellent Diamonds!
The fun starts at 7.30pm with a presentation from Graham Chalmers, Colin takes over with the audio and drops the needle around 8.00, short interval between sides, a video slide show will accompany playback then after side 2 we spin some bonus tracks! We also have a raffle – be lucky!
Tickets are just £7 (plus Eventbrite booking/card fee), or if you want to pay £7 to Gemma on the door please message on info@vinylsessions.org so we can hold a place. Every penny raised goes to Harrogate Hospital Community Charity for our Harrogate SCBU project, we are over halfway in a little over a year!!!
