Description

The North West British Society of Criminology Seminar Series 2016-17, in conjunction with University of Liverpool’s International Criminological Research Unit (ICRU) and the BSC National Victims Network, present a Day Symposium on:

Violence, Culture and Victimhood

Location: University of Liverpool, The Foresight Centre

10am: Registration and arrival, including tea and coffee

10.30am ‐ 12pm: Opening speakers: Brad Evans (University of Bristol) and Martin Hoondeart (University of Tilburg) chaired by Sandra Walklate (University of Liverpool)

12pm ‐ 1.30pm: Networking and lunch

1.30pm ‐ 3pm: Parallel paper sessions (see call for papers below)

3pm ‐ 4.15pm: Closing plenary: Pamela Davies, (Northumbria University) chair Gabe Mythen (University of Liverpool)

4.15pm – 4.30pm: Closing remarks: Sandra Walklate (University of Liverpool)

4.30pm - 5.30pm: Farewell reception, including wine and refreshments sponsored by the BSC National Victims Network

We would be delighted to receive proposals for papers, particularly from postgraduate and early career researchers, on the following themes:

1.Violence(s), suffering and resilience
2.Witnessing, victimhood and the role of teletechnologies
3.Gendered violence(s) and fearing subjects
4.Victimhood and memorialisation

Places for this event are limited and preference will be given to those whose papers have been accepted for presentation. This event is free of charge but you must register to attend.
