Virgin StartUp - Celebrating Female Entrepreneurship in 2018!

To mark International Women’s Day this year, Virgin StartUp will be joined by three incredible women, who have overcome significant hurdles to achieve success in the world of entrepreneurship and professional sports.

From the unique perspectives of our speakers, we will discuss:- What we can learn about leadership, from the world of professional sports? Why is a good business idea alone not enough? Why is it so important to develop the right mindset for success?

Our headline speaker is none other than Morgan Lake- a British Athletics Team GB High Jump Gold Winner- who will be sharing powerful insights on how to survive immense pressure both at home and on the field, in order to achieve your goals.

We will also be joined by two inspirational female entrepreneurs - Shakira Akabusi and Claudia Schroegel, who will share their own lessons as successful entrepreneurs within the world of health and fitness.

After we have heard from our speakers, there will be a chance to network with like-minded entrepreneurs and some of our amazing Virgin StartUp Mentors and Business Advisors (all over a few drinks and nibbles of course!)

More about our Speakers:

Morgan Lake

Morgan Lake is a British Athletics Team GB High Jump Athlete, who in 2014 became the first British Junior athlete to secure a double Gold at the World Junior Championships, in both the Heptathlon & High Jump. This year, she hopes to continue her success at competitions including the Commonwealth Games and the European Athletics Championships.

Shakira Akabusi

Shakira Akabusi is the founder of StrongLikeMum, a powerful network dedicated to shattering the stereotype around motherhood, demonstrating that women can still achieve their goals as a mum, whether in business, sports or personal life.

As a track athlete and a qualified personal trainer, and has also worked alongside brands such a Adidas UK, Fitpro and Liz Earle Wellbeing, to encourage women to connect positively with their bodies and find strength and focus through sport.

Claudia Schroegel

Claudia is a mental performance coach who seeks to challenge mindsets and facilitate change through running.

She is the co-founder of Advent Running an inspirational free-running community with over 4400 members, that aims to keep people motivated and running throughout the year. In 2018, she has also founded the Daybreak project, with the mission to encourage more people to log off and get outside.

More about Virgin StartUp:

At Virgin StartUp we work with inspiring entrepreneurs every day. Since our launch, we have helped over 2000 people to secure over £23million in loan funding throughout the UK, and we are proud to say that over 40% of this funding has been given to female founders. We are committed to helping to support even more women to start their own businesses in 2018.

This event is open to all! Gender parity is not just an issue for women. £12 trillion could be added to global GDP by 2025 if women started businesses at the same rate as men – if we work towards helping more women to start businesses, it would have a massive impact on the world.

So today and every day let’s celebrate the amazing female entrepreneurs that are changing communities, technologies and lives, and look to how we can further support women into business in the future.
