Description

Virgin StartUp MeetUp: - How to lead your startup with purpose

For 50 years, Virgin has put purpose at the heart of our businesses, and strive to live up to our commitment to change business for good. For Virgin, purpose is crucial to the power of the brand.

What's your "why"?

In 2020, business cannot be solely about the bottom line. Serious start-ups need to consider how they're going to benefit society as a whole, alongside creating a sustainable model which can generate revenue and growth. And one can help the other.

Buy one, give one

Customers expect the businesses they buy from to stand by, and promote certain values or causes. You're more likely to win a customer if some money from their purchase goes towards a worthwhile project, bettering a community or helping a charity.

High profile examples of this type of business is footwear brand Toms, which donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes it sells, or Gandy's Flip Flops, which donates some of every sale to helping orphans around the world.

Purpose-driven

However, purpose isn't only about embedding giving, but can also act as a guiding principle to help make business decisions or drive strategy. A good purpose will embody everything your startup is trying to do, for its staff, its customers, and the world as a whole. A good purpose can give people a reason to come to work every day.

At this event we will hear from speakers who are running businesses that have placed purpose at the heart of their start-ups. You'll also get to network and meet other people on a mission to launch a business that does well by doing good. All that, and you get to meet some of the Virgin StartUp team as well.
