Virtual Bat Walk
Event Information
About this event
Come along on a virtual bat walk via Zoom on Thursday 5 August at 7pm with mammal specialist Graeme Wilson.
He’ll start with a short talk about bats including what they eat, why they are important and what types you will find in UK. He'll also cover what to do if you find a grounded or injured bat and see bats up close in videos of bat rescues Graeme has been involved in.
Then he will explain what a bat detector is and how it works before going to find some bats and letting you listen to the different sounds they make.
The talk and walk will be prerecorded but there will be a chance afterwards to ask Graeme questions in a live Q&A session. So why not come along and join Graeme and find out all about the wonderful world of bats from the comfort of your own home?
The video presentation was recorded during March and early April so some bat species were not as active as later in the year. However this may change as, weather permitting, Graeme hopes to update the video presentation.
Graeme is an experienced ecologist and wildlife educator who has worked for a number of different organisations over his career and is now freelance. He specialised in mammals over 20 years ago and has given talks at many conferences as well as leading events and workshops for a variety of organisations, including the Mammal Society. He is one of the co-founders of the Lothians and Borders Mammal Group.
He is also an experienced wildlife rehabber who has cared for mainly bats but also has had other mammal species in care over the years.
