Please note that not all Local Authorities will accept the attendance of a virtual course as part of your application.  You must check with your Local Authority prior to booking.

Overview

This is an adaptation of our highly interactive Disability Awareness course is available to Hackney Carriage and Private Hire drivers.

The course has been adapted to allow candidates to complete the course using video conferencing instead of attending a classroom setting.

Course Content

The course aims to provide Hackney Carriage and Private Hire drivers with a knowledge and understanding of disabilities, their responsibilities and best practice protocols to provide safe and secure transport to all passengers. The candidate will be able to:

• Understand what is meant by the term disability

• Understand the law and legal requirements around disability

• Understand different types of disability

• Understand how to load and secure passengers and wheelchairs

• Understand best practice when interacting with a disabled passenger

• Understand the regulations about assistance dogs

• Understand their duty of care responsibilities and best practice protocols

Learning will be consolidated via Knowledge Check Questions throughout the course.

This is a CPD Certification accredited course.

Following successful completion of the course you will receive an e-Certificate (2-3 working days after the course).

The course will run for approximately 3 hours.

Locations

The course is carried out from your own home by logging into Zoom, an online video conferencing platform.

Requirements

In order to partake in the course, you will need to download Zoom on your laptop or tablet.  A phone can be used however we recommend the use of a laptop or tablet to give you a larger screen.

Zoom is free to download at https://zoom.us/ .  You must download this well in advance of the training session.  We recommend that you test that it works on your system and that you can use video and audio. 

We will not refund anyone who does not successfully join / complete the course due to their poor connection or if either their camera or microphone are not working - these are essential requirements to be able to successfully participate in the course.

When registering with the trainer you MUST show photo ID, either your DRIVING LICENCE, TAXI LICENCE BADGE or PASSPORT. These must be the original documents and if they are not presented at registration attendance will be refused.

If you are attending as a Passenger Assistant you will need to show either your Passport or Council Photo ID upon registration.

If you are unable to attend the course for any reason please provide at least 7 day's notice. We are unable to amend or refund any bookings after this time. Any refunds will be subject to a deduction of the Eventbrite processing fee.
