Virtual Entrepreneurship Insight Event

The virtual ‘Entreprenurship Insight Event’ will take place on Thursday 24th June via Zoom for students (and parents of students) from Years 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 from Bromley High and other local and GDST schools. The event will start at 19.00 and finish at 20.45.

At the event there will be two keynote speakers, who will talk to attendees from 19.00 to 20.00. Fleur Emery is a fearless and informed start-up expert and the founder of REALWORK, an online co-working space, created to inspire and equip women to work and earn in a way best suited to them. She has 15 years’ experience of starting multiple businesses from the ground up. Her first brand went from concept to Waitrose in 18 months, the second from concept to house lager at The Ritz Hotel in the same time frame. She has held a guest lectureship in business and branding at UCL and she has consulted, or been a non-executive director, on multiple start-ups, including Pip & Nut, Miso Tasty and Little Bandits. Julian Hall is the CEO and founder of the world’s first artificial intelligence chatbot, #AskUltra, which is designed to teach entrepreneurship to young people. He has co-written three degree courses in entrepreneurship and he has launched the UK’s first mobile game for young entrepreneurs, called Startup Dash. Five years ago he founded a multi-award winning social enterprise, called Ultra Education C.I.C, which has been successfully teaching entrepreneurship to primary and secondary school children from disadvantaged backgrounds. His ambition is to make entrepreneurial education available to every child globally.

After these talks, from 20.00 to 20.20, two recent GDST alumnae will talk about their own entrepreneurial journeys. Chloe Smith is the co-founder of the Bigmoose Coffee Shop, which has been expressly set up to mentor, train and employ vulnerable people in the city of Cardiff. After a Kickstarter fundraising campaign raised £30,000 in a week, Bigmoose opened its doors in March 2018, with all profits going to help homeless and other disadvantaged people get back into work and society. Isabella West established Hirestreet three years ago to revolutionise the fashion market by encouraging shoppers to rent clothes rather than buy them. Her company recently triumphed at the Drapers Sustainable Fashion Awards 2021, winning the Recommerce Award for its focus on affordable pricing.

After these talks, there will be a question and answer session from 20.20 to 20.45.

It will be a fantastic opportunity for students and parents to find out more about the skills and mindset required for success as an entrepreneur, and to gain practical advice from leaders in the field about how to build an entrepreneurial career.
