Please join us for a live discussion with Olympic Marathon Swimmer Toby Robinson.
After narrowly missing out on selection for the Olympics in Rio and Tokyo, Toby achieved a childhood dream of qualifying for the Marathon Swim in the Paris Olympics, where he finished 14th.
While much of the discussion around the event focused on water quality, the key challenge for the athletes on the day was the strength of the current. Swimmers were swept downstream faster than the 100m freestyle world record pace, and then had to battle back against the current.
Following the Olympics, Toby retired from elite swimming. He now uses his passion for the sport to campaign for cleaner water.
The Next Challenge: The Thames Swim Against Sewage
From 1 to 4 September this year, Toby will join 7 other top English, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish swimmers for an epic non-stop relay along the length of the Thames in the Thames Swim Against Sewage. The aim is to tell the story of the river and what people along its length are doing to clean it up. In addition, they plan to deliver a message to Parliament about the importance of clean rivers across the UK and the growing desire for "Swimmable Cities".
The swim is being organised by Surfers Against Sewage.
