Family Dog Virtual Workshops
Our Family Dog workshops are specially designed to provide parents/carers of children with autism with the advice and long-term support needed for choosing and training a pet dog to benefit the whole family. They are for UK based families or temporarily living outside of the UK.
The workshops are for parents/carers of a child aged between 3 - 16 years old with a clinical diagnosis of autism.
All sessions start at 10am
• Introduction session - 03 June
• Workshop 1 live - 10 June
• Workshop 2 live - 08 July
• Workshop 3 live - 05 August
Attendees are required to complete all 3 workshops.
"I remember at the first workshop, I just couldn’t believe it when the instructors went through what they could teach us and how it might help Jacob. I just sat there and cried. I was thinking ‘this could be life-changing, it’s just amazing.’ It was also brilliant to meet and talk to other parents of children with autism. I remember thinking ‘We’re all in this together, our struggles are real and these people really understand. We are not alone.’” - Liz, Jacob's Mum and workshop attendee.
FAQs
- How do the virtual workshop work?
The Family Dog Service’s Virtual Workshops consist of pre-recorded Webinars, housed on an online platform called Sharepoint. These Webinars are divided into 3 main Workshops, with an additional Workshop on ‘Selecting the right dog’.
After watching each Workshop, you will attend a ‘Live’ chat via Microsoft Teams (these will be on the dates that you book on to). These ‘Lives’ include an ‘Intro Live’, which is for you to meet the other people in the group, meet the Instructors and for the team to check everyone is ok with the technical aspect of the Virtual Workshops.
The Intro Live will last around 45 minutes.
After your Intro Live (the first date you are booked on to) you will have a week before your Workshop 1 Live (the second date you are booked on to).
The subsequent Workshop Lives will last around 1 - 1.5 hours.
After each main Workshop Live, you will have a 2 week break before it is time to watch the next lot of Workshop Webinars.
You will then have 2 weeks to view the required Workshop Webinars before the relevant Live, and you will be sent an email detailing when it is time to watch them.
You must attend all Lives in order to qualify for ongoing support from the Family Dog team.
- If I'm unable to attend, can I obtain a refund?
If you have a situation that prevents you from coming to our workshops and you can give us 7 days' notice before the date of the first workshop of your cancellation, we will happily refund your payment.
