About this event
Invite text is bilingual, please find Welsh below.
We would like to invite you to the official launch of Marie Curie's Great Daffodil Appeal in Wales – our flagship fundraising campaign which raises vital funds to support our work in delivering the best possible end of life experience for all.
Jane Hutt MS is kindly sponsoring this event.
Marie Curie’s work is more important than ever. The formal launch of Great Daffodil Appeal 2022 is an opportunity for supporters and Members of the Welsh Parliament to come together to reflect on the past two years and the effect of the pandemic, and to hope for the future.
During the event, a special video will be screened for the first time. The video – Repurposing – has been developed over the last year and aims to show the experience of our Marie Curie Cymru colleagues throughout the pandemic. The video includes a specially written poem by award-winning poet, Eurig Salisbury, and is narrated by Welsh television presenter, Iolo Williams. It is an emotional portrayal of the change and adaptation that Marie Curie teams have had to undertake to continue supporting people to die well in their homes and communities during the pandemic.
The event will be chaired by Chris Martin, Trustee and Chair of Marie Curie Wales Advisory Board, and will be an opportunity to hear a variety of updates relating to the charity. Speakers include:
- Jane Hutt MS, the event sponsor
- Debbie Lingwood, Healthcare Assistant in Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board
- Matthew Reed, Chief Executive of Marie Curie
- Eluned Morgan MS, Health and Social Care Minister for Wales
- Sara Bass, Head of Fundraising in Wales
There will also be an opportunity for listeners to be involved in interactive chat activities, where they can share their thoughts and experiences of Marie Curie in Wales using #mydaffodil or #GDA2022

Mae gwaith Marie Curie yn bwysicach nawr nag erioed. Bydd y lansiad yn gyfle i gefnogwyr ac Aelodau’r Senedd dod at eu gilydd i adlewyrchu ac i fyfyrio am y ddwy flwyddyn ddiwethaf a’r effaith mae’r pandemig wedi cael, ac i obeithio am y dyfodol.
Yn ystod y digwyddiad, bydd fideo arbennig yn cael ei dangos am y tro gyntaf. Cafodd y fideo – Newidiwyd Ni - ei datblygu dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf er mwyn dangos y profiadau mae gwahanol dimoedd Marie Curie wedi cael dros y pandemig. Mae’r fideo yn cynnwys cerdd wedi’i hysgrifennu gan fardd arobryn, Eurig Salisbury, ac wedi'i hadroddi gan gyflwynydd Cymraeg, Iolo Williams. Mae’n bortread emosiynol o’r newid ac addasiad roedd cydweithwyr Marie Curie wedi ymgymryd er mwyn parhau i gefnogi pobl i farw’n dda yn eu tai a’u cymunedau yn ystod y pandemig.
Bydd y digwyddiad yn cael ei cadeirio gan Chris Martin, Ymddiriedolwr a Chadeirydd Bwrdd Cynghorol Marie Curie Cymru. Bydd siaradwyr yn cynnwys:
