Event Information
About this Event
What is a Virtual Maths Circle?
A Virtual Maths Circle is an event via Zoom for 7-14 year old and their families.
To facilitate interaction and better tailor the activities, the October virtual Maths Circle will consist of different slots:
- first slot: 10:00-10:50- for age 7-11
- second slot: 11:10- 12:00- for age 11-14
- extra slot: 14:00- 14:50- for age 7-11 (added due to high demand)
You are welcome to attend either of the slots, or both, according to your preference and the age of the children.
This page allows you to book tickets for the second slot only. Please visit this page, if you would like to book a space in the extra slot as well (for 7-11 years old)
Prior to the event, a selection of approximately 6 Maths puzzles will be sent out in a PDF format to everyone who registers. The puzzles only require pencil and paper and you are encouraged to try them out in advance.
During the virtual event, participants can join different "Breakout Rooms". In each breakout room a Maths Circle host will explain how to solve two of the puzzles that we will send out. Participants will be able to listen to the host, discuss ways to think about the problem, ask questions and then move to a different breakout room if they want to try other problems.
In order for you to get the most out of the Virtual Maths Circle you should be present for the duration of the event. It is not a drop-in style event like the in person Maths Circles are.
In each breakout room there will be at least one staff member with a PVG/DBS check to ensure safeguarding of all participants, but we ask parents/guardians to supervise their children during the event as well.
The join details for the Zoom meeting will be emailed out in advance to everyone who has registered. Please do not share these Zoom details with anyone else, but direct others to this eventbrite page if they would like to sign up.
Please read our code of conduct before signing up to the event.
The event will be recorded for monitoring and safeguarding purposes. The recording will contain all videos, audio and chat messages. This recording will only be accessed by the organisers of the event. If you would rather you weren't recorded please turn your video off on Zoom and you may prefer to use the chat rather than audio.
