Virtual Maths Circle October 2025- Second Slot : AGE 11-14

What is a Virtual Maths Circle?

A Virtual Maths Circle is an event via Zoom for 7-14 year olds and their families.

To facilitate interaction and better tailor the activities, the Virtual Maths Circle will consist of two online slots:

- First slot: 18:00-19:00 on Monday 6th October, for ages 7-11

- Second slot: 18:00-19:00 on Tuesday 7th October, for ages 11-14

You are welcome to attend either of the slots, or both, according to your preference and the age of the children.

This page allows you to book tickets for the second slot only. Please visit this page, if you would like to book a space in the first slot as well.

Prior to the event, a Zoom link and resource pack will be emailed to you. Please do not share the Zoom joining instructions with anyone. If you know of someone else who may be interested in attending, please ask them to register via Eventbrite.

The resource pack will contain one or two puzzles. The puzzles only require pencil and paper. To make the most of the live event, we strongly encourage you to try them in advance.

During the virtual event, a Maths Circle host will explain how to solve one of the puzzles on the resource pack and then we will explore together a "surprise" puzzle. Participants will be able to listen to the host, discuss ways to think about the problems and ask questions.

In order for you to get the most out of the Virtual Maths Circle you should be present for the duration of the event. It is not a drop-in style event like the in person Maths Circles are.

Please note that for safeguarding reasons we require that each minor is supervised by a parent/guardian/responsible adult for the duration of the event.

The join details for the Zoom meeting will be emailed out in advance to everyone who registered. Please do not share these Zoom details with anyone else, but direct others to this Eventbrite page if they would like to sign up.

By registering to this event you are giving the University and the Maths Circle team consent to hold and process your data, under data protection regulations, for the purpose of running this event.

Data about age, schools and postcodes, or whether you previously attended our events, will be used by the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh to analyse the demographics of participants, and may be anonymised and published in the future (appearing in University reports, Education, Mathematics or Science Communication Journals/Conferences, for example).

Other data may be stored by the University of Edinburgh for up to five years, and used for the purpose of evaluating the event. The University will not share any personal data with third parties. If you would like your data to be deleted from our datastore, please email francesca.iezzi@ed.ac.uk.
