Following the usual welcome and introductions, our first Primary Geography Subject Leader Network (PGSLN) meeting of 2025-2026 will begin with an ‘educational round-up’ of themes and issues currently being discussed, useful websites, the latest resources, opportunities for pupils, CPD events, competitions and the many FREEBIES on offer! Time will be built in to explore some of these links and recommendations.
The main part of the meeting will consider how climate change and sustainability can be integrated into the curriculum from EYFS to Year 6. Afterwards, we will be joined by Mark Enser (former National Geography Lead for Ofsted and an HMI and now working in school support), who will look at avoiding confusion and challenging misconceptions in primary geography. Here, Mark will explore the findings from Ofsted's latest Geography Subject Report ('Getting our bearings') to show the impressive changes that have been seen in primary geography, but where things still go wrong. He will provide practical solutions and examples of strong practice that can transform the experience of pupils in the classroom and beyond.
In addition to having opportunities to interact with others by means of various activities and open discussions, you will be able to ask questions. It is hoped that you will not only enhance your understanding of your role and responsibilities as an effective Geography Subject Leader, but also gain further ideas to support your continued whole school curriculum planning and development.
The meeting will conclude with a period of reflection; time to identify the key takeaways and your next steps for the remainder of the academic year and beyond, plus give some feedback via an online form.
