Virtual Reading Group: Katherine Dauge-Roth
Event Information
About this Event
Join us for Renaissance Skin's first virtual reading group. We are excited to be welcoming Katherine Dauge-Roth of Bowdain College to discuss her new book 'Signing the Body: Marks on Skin in Early Modern France'.
Signing the Body is the first scholarly monograph to address the rich history of the marked body in the early modern period. Drawing together a wide range of sources, it investigates tattooing, marking and other signs on skin in areas as diverse as demonology, jurisprudence, mysticism, medicine, pilgrimage, commerce, travel, and colonial conquest. In our virtual reading group, we will be focusing in particular on pilgrim tattoos.
If you would like to participate, sign up here and we will be in contact to share some prior reading and the link to join over Zoom. We will be welcoming questions for discussion from participants, as well as giving participants the chance to bring their own material for discussion if desired.
This is material of direct relevance and interest to our project, and we're grateful to Katherine Dauge-Roth for participating in our experiment and for sharing her work. We look forward to welcoming you.
Sign ups will be closing on the evening of Sunday 26th, giving us time to share prior reading and request attendees to share questions and material before the group.
