Event description
On the weekend of Saturday 15th May and Sunday 16th May we are setting you the challenge of running your choice of 3k/5k/10k or 13.1miles

About this Event

Do you love running?

Would you like to set yourself a challenge for 2021?

Would you like to help us raise £5000 to support the work of the East of England Children and Young People’s Diabetes Network? If so then our Virtual Running Weekend could be for you!

Originally we were hoping to be able to arrange a running event this year where we could bring together children and young people with diabetes and their families from across the region to run together and raise money for the network. However with the event of COVID we have had to rethink of a more socially distanced secure way that we can run this event.

Therefore over the weekend of Saturday 15th May and Sunday 16th May 2021 we are setting you the challenge of running your choice of 3k/5k/10k or 13.1miles in your local area. You can choose your route and your distance and then we can all join together on our virtual running weekend to out your best foot forward and help to raise money for a great cause.

You can ask your family and friends to sponsor you as you undertake this challenge. All money that you raise will go directly to helping the work of the East of England Children and Young People’s Diabetes Network – which works to improve care and support for children and young people with diabetes across the East of England.

This year at the network we are raising money for two key priorities:

Events for teenagers – we are looking to organise a series of events and activities for teenagers as they face the challenge of thinking about moving on from children’s diabetes services to adult care. This can be a difficult time in a young person’s life and we want to support all teenagers so that they feel confident and assured as they make the big step to adult care.

Camp places for families who are not able to afford them – we have been running our diabetes adventure camps for 8 years now. They are always a huge success and help children and young people to become more independent in the management of their diabetes while having a lot of fun trying out new activities and making new friends. We believe these camps should be open to all who wish to attend and therefore we are raising money to enable families who would not otherwise be able to afford it to share in the camp experience.

I am sure you will agree that these are both very worthy causes – and each step you take on your challenge run will help get us closer to the £5,000 target that we have set ourselves for this event.

In recognition of your running efforts all participants will receive a medal and certificate to celebrate the distance that you have achieved.

To enter this event all you need to do is complete the form below telling us which challenge distance you would like to run, and giving us the names and contact details for the people who will be doing the running.

Its free to enter all we ask is you raise a minimum of £25 per person entering

In order to obtain your medal you will need to send us photographic evidence of the distance you have achieved – this can be from your Strava, Garmin or fitness app. Photos of you and your family’s achievement will be great too, and with your written permission, we will add the photos to our Facebook page. After we have received confirmation of your run, and notification of the sponsorship collected, we will send the medals and certificates to you.

When you have registered for the event, we will send you a link to help you set up your fundraising page.

If you have any questions about the event please contact Kate Wilson (kate.wilson@addenbrookes.nhs.uk) or mobile 07977442060.

We look forward to running with you in May, having a great time and raising money for the East of England Children & Young People’s Diabetes Network.
