Event description
Join artists Studio Above&Below in creating Augmented Reality sculptures on London City Island

About this Event

For children aged 8 - 13

Using the landscape of London City Island as a starting point, children will hunt for found objects to use in the creation of digital sculptures. Through story-telling, experimentation and mind-mapping, the sculptures will be transformed into Augmented Reality and placed around London City Island as an invisible sculpture trail. During this two hour workshop, children will be introduced to different types of Augmented Reality technologies, as well as basic skills in 3D software modelling, storytelling and collaboration.

The workshop will be led by Perry-James Sugden and Daria Jelonek of Studio Above&Below.

About Studio Above&Below

The studio focuses on interactive and immersive projects, based on hands-on research at the intersection of art, design and technology. Studio ABOVE & BELOW is specialising in the field of sustainable futures in which emerging technologies and code have the potential to improve our planet’s well being.

Above&Below was founded by media artists Daria Jelonek and Perry-James Sugden in November 2017, after graduating from the Royal College of Art. Currently based in Somersethouse London, their collaboratively practice focuses on interactive and speculative projects, based on hands-on research at the intersection of art, technology and our environment. The artists aim to wire unseen connections together to create new experiences which they believe can change human behaviours for better interactions with our environment.

Above&Below received several fundings and prizes, which include the Collusion art funding 2018-2019 (winner), Zealous sculpture prize 2019 (winner), Aesthetica Artprize (longlist), Lumen Prize 2018 (shortlisted), Bloomberg bursary (2017), WIRED Creative Hack Award 2017 (finalist), Tenderflix Award 2017 (finalist), Communication Arts Award - Interactive Art 2017 (shortlist) and the Battersea sculpture prize 2016 (winner).

Their artworks were exhibited and screened at cultural institutes such as Royal Academy, ICA London, Photophore - Spazio Ridotto Venice, Royal College of Art, Hima Art Space Shanghai and International Shortfilm Festival Oberhausen.

They have been given talks about the intersection of art, design, technology and the environment at cultural and tech institutes such as London Design Festival, Retune Festival Berlin, V&A London, Microsoft Research Cambridge, Imperial College, Royal College of Art, WIRED Japan.
