Virtual self-massage session with lymph drainage introduction

Join us for a special virtual session designed for those living with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome or those caring for someone with MCAS or suspected MCAS. This session will run from 7 to 8pm.

We have graded this event as using two Spoons of energy (one physical and one mental).

Come along and meet host, Ellen, and learn some self-massage techniques to help you relax and spend some time thinking about self-care. This session will also feature an introduction to lymph drainage. All techniques will be optional, so feel free to join in with the movements that you feel comfortable with.

You will need to have a safe cream or massage oil with you to use on yourself during the session.

Ellen is a qualified Level 5 BTEC Clinical Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist – one of the most comprehensive qualifications in Sports Massage. Ellen specialises in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and pain – both sport and work-related. Ellen also has a personal interest and specialist training in Oncology massage for those individuals facing and undergoing cancer treatment as well as post treatment; and Scar Therapy is an emerging specialism which utilitses very specific skills both on and around the scar areas improving function, sensation and connection to the scars and has a huge beneficial impact on the lymphatic system.

Come along and discover gentle massage techniques tailored to alleviate tension, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation. Learn about lymphatic drainage in supporting management MCAS symptoms and learn simple techniques for self-massage to support lymphatic circulation. Engage with our experienced host to ask questions, share experiences, and connect with others in the MCAS community.

Our sessions are only suitable to those living in the U.K, this is due to our funding and due to the differences in medical systems, benefits, treatment and medications around the world. Your body may benefit from a moisturiser or oil carrier to enable sliding and gliding during the massage session, this depends upon your sensitivities and allergies – for example a generic moisturiser or coconut oil would be fine if you tolerate this. We also suggest you sit at a table to enable your elbows to rest on the surface and reduce impact on your shoulders, even though this is a low level self-massage session. Alternatives would be to have a pillow on your lap if sat on a comfy chair or bed.

What you need to know

We will be running this session virtually through zoom, you are welcome to attend with your microphone and camera off if you feel more comfortable doing so - although you may benefit from being more interactively involved during the session.

We will email out the Zoom link to join before the session. Please check your junk folder if you can't find this link.

Please book a place for everyone who will be attending online, even if you'll be attending using the same device. This helps us keep the event running smoothly and safely, and also helps us to decide what kind of events to organise in the future.

Massage is a gentle healing practice. It can help to lower stress and pain in the body, and promote better energy levels and sleep. It is not a magical cure-all for health issues however, but can be a valuable part of the puzzle in managing them.

If a movement causes any pain, please share this with Ellen, who will help you to find a movement which is more comfortable for you. The practice should never be painful. If a movement is not possible due to pain, or because of dizziness or low energy levels, focus on your breathing instead. Neither Ellen, nor Mast Cell Action will not be held responsible for any injury sustained.

How Mast Cell Action Uses Your Data

We will collect the information you provide on Eventbrite to gather statistics about how many people attend our events and how many people return to our events and also demographic information about who is attending Mast Cell Action events. These statistics are vital to helping charities like Mast Cell Action demonstrate the impact of our work, and we use them to report to our funders and other groups to demonstrate the difference that funding support can make.

In our database, your name will be stored along with these statistics but identifying information is never included in reports. We don’t collect or store more information than needed to generate these statistics and have no access to any financial information you provide to Eventbrite.

All information is stored in line with our GDPR policy.
