About this event
Join colleagues from Virgin Money to celebrate Maths Week England with this one day series of maths and finance based workshops and career panels for primary and secondary aged students.
The theme for Maths Week England this year is "Connection or Coincidence?"
STEMtastic is a virtual event that aims to inform school-age pupils interested in STEM subjects of future career opportunities in banking, finance and IT within Virgin Money. To celebrate Maths Week England, we are hosting two workshops and a careers panel focused on maths and finance careers.
STEMtastic will be held on Wednesday19th November 2025 from 9am to 2.30pm. Schools and home school students are welcome to join us for all or part of the day.
Who is this event aimed at?
Young people aged between 9-18 years old.
What is the format of the event?
The day will comprise 2 workshops and 1 careers panel event.
All sessions will be hosted live on Microsoft Teams, and can be streamed either directly to the pupils' computers or to the front of your classroom.
A moderated Questions and Answers panel will be available to pose your questions live to presenters to be answered in the session.
Timetable
Teams events will be open 15 minutes before the start time to allow participants time to join before the interactive presentations begin.
9.15am - 10.15am - Primary school workshop for 9-11 year olds exploring the maths behind interest rates
11am - 12pm - Secondary school workshop for 12-16 year olds exploring interest rates, savings and loans products. The session will be a combination of financial education with an understanding of the mathematics behind different elements of banking.
1.30pm - 2.30pm - Banking Career Panel for 14-18 year olds. Meet a panel of colleagues from Virgin Money with interesting tales of how they have incorporated maths into their career journeys
Tickets
Please book tickets for the sessions you wish to attend. If you are booking for a school group, you only need to book 1 ticket per session and tell us the number of pupils who will be attending.
If you wish to attend more than one session, please add additional ticket types to your order.
Why are we holding this event?
STEM outreach activities like our STEMtastic Day aim to inspire young people to study relevant subjects and pursue roles in business, technology, finance and banking. The UK is facing a shortage of skills for these industries, mainly down to a shortage of applicants with the required abilities and experience. According to the UK Commission for Employment & Skills, 43% of STEM vacancies are hard to fill. The root of this growing skills' gap is education, from school through to university and workplace training.
Past Events
STEMtastic workshops started in 2018. Since then our team of finance and technology professionals have organised a number of workshop events showcasing STEM career paths in banking, including Data Analysis, Cyber Security, IT, and more.
Please see the attached video of our in-person STEMtastic event held in 2018.
