About this event

A full day of training, approved and accredited by the Royal College of Physicians (for 5 CPD points) is being delivered by Hospice specialists and key partners who are working within the Learning Disabilities field, via Zoom, looking at:

• What are the barriers to provide gold standard palliative care for patients with learning disabilities?

• Supporting patients with learning disabilities – before and after death

• Multidisciplinary Team-working in Palliative care for patients with Learning disabilities

The full programme for the event is as follows:

09:30 – 09:45: Introduction and welcome – Dr Qamar Abbas, Medical Director and Consultant in Palliative Medicine, St. Clare Hospice.

09:45 - 10:30: Setting the scene for why this work is so important in light of the latest LeDeR data -Rebekah Bailie, Integrated LD Health Commissioner, LeDeR Local Area Coordinator, Essex County Council.

10:30 – 11:15: Service users telling their stories (2 speakers- Rukhsana Ahmad & Sandra Wilson, Service delivery Lead Livability, Keefield Close.)

11:15 – 11:30: Coffee Break

11:30 – 13:00: Reflective session on communication - Louise Jenkins, Strategic Lead nurse, Hertfordshire County Council Community Learning Disability Nursing Service

13:00 – 13:45: Lunch

13:45 – 14:30: Overview of palliative care/hospice services and reasonable adjustments we should be making - Annette Harmen, Clinical Nurse Specialist with special interest in LD, St Clare Hospice & LD nurse.

14:30 – 15:15: Grief and Bereavement in people with Learning Disability – Danielle Mathias, Adult and Child Social Worker, St Clare Hospice & Dr Cathryn Mannington, Clinical psychologist, Learning Disability Specialist Health Services, West Essex.

15:15 – 16:00: Wellbeing and Self Care - Danielle Mathias, Adult and Child Social Worker, St Clare Hospice.
