Virtual Tour - Lest we Forget: How we Remembered
Event Information
About this Event
On Armistice Day, this tour uncovers the way World War 1, its tragedy and futility as well as heroism and bravery, is commemorated in statues and monuments around Whitehall. We will see memorials to soldiers, sailors, airmen and also civilians; some erected shortly after the end of the war and others not unveiled until after World War 2.
As well as learning about the history of the war and the people involved, we will hear the stories behind the memorials; their design and how their sites were chosen.
At the end of the tour we will reflect how this Great War, rather than being the war to end all wars, in many ways laid the foundations for modern warfare. And we will remember.
The tour will be delivered online using the Zoom video-conferencing platform. You will be sent joining details on booking.
