Event description
For folks who are ready + determined to do the work to show up for their black colleagues with honest, reflective + meaningful solidarity.

About this Event

The murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the disproportionate deaths of black people from COVID19, have articulated the continuing violence and devastation of anti-black racism - the incredible cost of this daily inequity. But of course - this is all nothing new. This moment is only illuminating existing systemic inequities that play out at every level of our society, everyday - including your workplace, your office, your relationships. We, all non-black folks, are all part of the problem.

So, we have to play our part in the solution.

Many folks are asking - in this moment - how can I show up as an ally for my black colleagues in a meaningful way? How can I fight against anti-black racism in my everyday actions and decisions? The journey starts with understanding what anti-black racism is, how it manifests, where it comes from, what narratives support it, and how it shows up at the micro and macro levels.

We can't tackle this issue in our workplace until we fully understand it - have the language and conceptual understanding of what is really happening at the systemic level. There are no quick fixes here.

This introductory workshop will give participants a robust understanding of anti-black racism as an interpersonal and systemic phenomenon and engage participants in starting to craft new ways of being and doing that directly disrupt anti-blackness in their everyday being and doing.

This workshop is for folks that are ready and determined to do the work to show up for their black colleagues with honest, reflective and meaningful solidarity.

At the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Have a deeper, more nuanced understanding of how anti-black racism shows up and where this comes from
  • Have started to apply this new deeper understanding to thinking about new ways of being and doing
  • Have had their thinking challenged and engaged with new diversity and inclusion thinking

*All proceeds from this workshop will be donated to Black Lives Matter.

Please note that this is not a webinar. Our workshop is experiential and involves active participation and dialogue. If you feel uncomfortable having your camera on, or do not have video capabilities, that is fine - you will need a microphone/audio features or be able to type to ensure a fulsome learning experience.
