Virtually Malleable: Breaking photorealism with Blender
workshop led by Marc Blazel and Shinji Toya
workshop led by Marc Blazel and Shinji Toya
Using the open-source software Blender the participants will be introduced to some basic principles of working in 3D, re-rendering photorealistic objects into grotesque, distorted, or kitsch-looking figures that subvert the smoothness of Hollywood style visual effects. Participants will learn how to texture, re-model and modify their creations, reflecting on the semantic shift that occurs through transformation.
By engaging with the works in the exhibition RE-FIGURE-GROUND at arebyte Gallery, we will be asking how artists may use 3D modelling to subvert realness and question its commercial use. This workshop will aim to demystify the world of 3D through practice and critical thinking exercises.
Participants will need to bring their own laptops or share with a friend (Mac/Windows/Linux all good!) - No prior experience in 3D modelling or Blender is required. Although basic computer skills are required.
9th March, 1-5pm, 18+, FREE
