Event description

Description

Introduction: The notion of ‘becoming’ a scholarly-practitioner, by researching a complex practice-based problem, has gained momentum and is a central feature of many educational programmes. However, the relationship between management education and management practice remains largely underexplored.

It is our contention that re-visioning the ideals associated with scholarly-practice research can inform current debates relating to impact; as we explore the creative integration of research, teaching and management practice.

Aim: To design a process of enquiry that focuses on impact, by adapting a Future Conference methodology, wherein a space is created to connect academics, current students, employers and alumni, in order to develop the scholarly-practice research community.

Focus question: ‘To what extent does management education impact on management practice?’

Additional questions will arise during the workshop and will be refined as participants continue to work together.

What will happen? Keynote speakers will introduce and position the event, after which an expert facilitator will guide participants as they work in groups. Three key phases are to be explored: mapping the environment, system analysis and action planning. At the end of each phase, group feedback will be disseminated to all delegates. The day closes with an opportunity to network and meet Editors of journals that welcome Scholarly-Practice Research.
