About this event
It’s Britain’s most remarkable street: a palace at one end a castle on the other, as Lord Byron nearly said. It is one of the most visited routes in the country, packed with tourists heading from Edinburgh Castle at the top, perched high on a volcanic rock, down through Lawnmarket and High Street, with its towering tenements and enticing looking tiny cobbled closes, past the Heart of Midlothian, and along Canongate to the modernist masterpiece that is the Scottish Parliament and the majestic Palace of Holyroodhouse in the shadow of Arthur’s Seat.
Penguin author Ed Glinert, author of the forthcoming Edinburgh Compendium, hosts this Zoom Caledonian commemoration, highlighting the most scintillating stories from the heart of Scotland’s historic capital, following in the footsteps of Mary Queen of Scots, John Knox, Robbie Burns and Walter Scott, remembering the botched invasions, foiled coups and tastiest executions.
All we need to ascertain is which royalty? House of Bruce, House of Stuart or the House of Hanover?
