Furry Friends of Honeywood Museum

6 January - 5 February 2022

Thursday - Saturday 10am - 5pm

The Furry Friends of Honeywood Museum came to life as part of the Carshalton Artist Open Streets (CAOS) Yarnbombing display in 2021. They spent the summer meeting lots of new friends, being hugged by many and spreading a smile to the residents, young and old, in Carshalton.

They enjoyed summer by the ponds, but now winter is here they have moved inside for some fun adventures. Some are enjoying time with their friends, some are enjoying a staycation and some are just getting into trouble!

A colourful, fun display throughout the house by Carole Baker. See how many you can find!

Free. Drop-in exhibition.

The Wandle Wardrobe

10 February - 16 April 2022

Textile artist Elly Platt walked the Wandle Trail during lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, collecting lost clothes and textile waste and turning them into works of art. The Wandle has a rich history as a site of textile production, and it’s also an ecological success story. The Wandle Wardrobe explores our relationship with what we wear- in an era when clothes are so cheap and plentiful, have we lost our emotional attachment to them? - and the ways we interact with our local green spaces, especially during a time when indoor socialising wasn’t an option.

Elly has displayed her collection of lost clothes and textile scraps as quilts, turning trash into treasure and creating a visual record of the things we leave behind as we pass through a landscape.

After finding a fly-tipped pile of good-quality fabrics, the Wandle Wardrobe has taken on an extra element - the creation of a capsule clothing collection made from these fabrics. Elly takes inspiration from the wildlife she sees along the Wandle when designing these clothes, creating wearable art with meaning and purpose.

Free. Drop-in exhibition.

About Honeywood Museum

Honeywood Museum is a Grade II listed building next to the picturesque Carshalton Ponds in the heart of Carshalton's historic Conservation Area. The house dates to the 17th century with Victorian and Edwardian extensions, including a very fine billiards room. Permanent exhibitions tell the fascinating history of the house and the people who lived there and illustrate the history of the Borough of Sutton and the development of Carshalton.
