Event description

Description

Designed by Christopher Wren, Marlborough House was built in 1711 for Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough,
the confidante of Queen Anne. For more than a century it served as the town house of the Dukes of Marlborough. Today it is the seat of the Commonwealth Secretariat. This guided tour includes the fine rooms, decorated with murals, tapestries, paintings and sculptures, which relay the history of the building and its occupants, and the gardens, which retain their 18th-century layout of gravel paths and grass lawns. The visit also includes Queen Mary’s rotating summer house and Queen Alexandra’s pet cemetery.

Please note the possibility that the date of the tour may have to be changed if the rooms are required for official meetings of the Commonwealth Secretariat. Should this occur, we are promised at least one month’s notice.
