Event description
Our Visit the Vulcan Day is a great chance to get ‘up close and personal’ with Vulcan XL426 at London Southend Airport.

About this event

See former Royal Air Force bomber Avro Vulcan XL426 up close at our Visit the Vulcan Day. You can walk round the Vulcan and for an additional fee you can climb inside for a guided tour of the cockpit.

As well as the Vulcan, there will be much to keep the whole family entertained. There will be examples of the weapons carried by the Vulcan during its time with the RAF, including examples of the type of 1,000 lb high explosive bomb the Vulcan dropped on Port Stanley airfield during the 1982 Falklands Conflict.

We will be joined by military re-enactors with replicas of aircraft flown from Southend Airport when it was a fighter station in the First and Second World Wars.

Representing the First World War will be a replica DH2 biplane and evoking memories of the Second World War will be a replica of the iconic Supermarine Spitfire.

There will be burger, hot dog and sweet stands, so no one will go hungry or thirsty. Our souvenir stand will be open selling a selection of Vulcan souvenirs, including models, badges, patches, postcards, books and much more.

General admission is £8.00 for adults with accompanied under-16s £2.00. Tickets will be on sale on the gate and are also available to buy in advance should you wish - full refunds will be given if , for any reason, the event does not go ahead.

Cockpit visits are an additional £6.00 per person applicable to both adults and under-16s.

Cockpit visits will take place every 15 minutes on a timed ticket basis, so there will be no need to stand and queue. We will be restricting the numbers of people allowed in the cockpit at any one time. The cockpit is a confined space so we will require everyone entering to wear a face covering unless they are unable to do so. Cockpit visit tickets are subject to availability and will only be on sale on the day. When they’re gone, they’re gone!

Entry and cockpit tours are free for Vulcan Restoration Trust members subject to presenting a valid VRT membership card.

Doors open at 10.00 am with last admission at 4.00 pm.

Limited free car parking will be available close to the Vulcan. Please follow the ‘Vulcan Open Day’ direction signs after entering the airport. If the Vulcan car park is full, visitors will need to park in the airport’s short stay car park (for which there is a charge) which is approximately 10 minutes walk from the Vulcan.

Visitors can arrive by bus or train. London Southend Airport station is approximately 10 minutes walk away and is served by frequent trains on the London Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria line - turn left when leaving the station and follow the signs to the Vulcan.

Sorry – due to airport rules, we regret that no pets can be admitted with the exception of assistance dogs.
