Up next is Camden Arts Centre, where you'll go head to head with a monster Godzilla-like puppet made of latex, in a new performative installation by British artist Serena Korda. Serena has gained increasing critical recognition for weird and wonderful public works, which she develops from her research into abandoned histories and stories from popular culture, and from ideas she discovers through encounters and conversations with a range of different people and audiences. She recently created a performance piece for Tate Britain, which featured a guided tour of the clouds depicted in paintings in the collection. At the end of the performance she turned herself into a cloud. As we said, weird and wonderful.
The driving force behind Art Wednesday Out & About is Lizzie Perrotte. Her practice has always revolved around conversation and creative programming of arts and educational events. After studying Art History at University College London, she worked as an events programmer and lecturer in the Education Department at The National Gallery. From here she went to Tate and ran Education for the newly opened Tate St Ives. Lizzie moved back to London in the mid Nineties to run education at the ICA. She currently works at Course Director in Modern and Contemporary Art at Christies Education. We think you agree, that it’s a huge honour to have Lizzie on board.
About Art Wednesday's 'Out and About' tours:
The intellectualisation of the art world bugs us, which is why here at Art Wednesday we attempt to simplify it online. Offline we host Nice To Meet You events that connect you our audience with the people and ideas that you deserve to know about. With 'Out and About', we've gone one step further and created a series of tours, so you can now meet the incredible community of artists working right under your noses, either in their own environment or at a gallery. These studio and gallery visits will offer you a little window into art in the making and the opportunity to see it up close, without the usual stuffiness.
