We will meet at 1.45 pm outside the Hillier's Garden Centre Entrance next door to Syon House.
There is free parking available in the adjacent Hilliers Garden centre car park.
It's about a 10 minute walk from the Syon Park gates entrance to Hilliers Garden Centre, our meeting place.
Public transport does not go close to the house. However from the 267 Brent Lea bus stop one can walk through Syon Park past the Syon Park Hilton hotel to Hillier's Garden Centre. Again this is approximately a ten minute walk.
Unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the building, neither wheelchair access nor motorised scooter access is possible.
Syon House's exterior was erected in 1547 while under the ownership of the 1st Duke of Somerset. Syon's current interior was designed by Robert Adam in 1762 under the commission of the 1st Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. Syon is filled with multiple styles and inspirations including a huge influence of Roman antiquity, highly visible Romantic, Baroque and Mannerist styles and a little Gothic. The Great Hall, a grand staircase and a Long Gallery stretching 136 feet long are impressive features. Adam's most famous addition is the suite of state rooms and as such they remain exactly as they were built.
We will have a one hour tour of the Great Hall and Principal Floor. After the guided tour, the bedroom floor will be open for those interested and happy with the stairs leading there.
There will then be time to view the great Conservatory and gardens should you wish.
There are 6 steps to the front entrance and further 6 when in the Great Hall.
Next to Syon House is Hillier's Garden Centre which has cafes should you wish for a cuppa before your journey home.
