Event description

Description

We've had many requests the past few years for a visit here.

Originally a grand Georgian town house, the building became the property of the London Commissioners of Sewers in 1811. It therefore, inevitably, became the office of Sir Joseph Bazalgette in the 1850s. In the 1860s, the building passed to a House of Charity for the homeless. A chapel was built and the House of St Barnabas has been involved in community social work to this day.

More detail on the story.

London Historians members only. Join London Historians.

This will be quite a short event up to about 30 minutes. Proceeds go towards the charity.
