Visiting Wellgate Farm

Before you visit, check out the directions on our website at and remember to bring/wear appropriate footwear.

On arrival, please wash your hands with soap and water at the sinks for 20 seconds and dry your hands using the paper towel provided. Hand sanitiser is not sufficient and should only be used where soap and water is not available.

Ring the bell and wait to be checked-in, we will check your details against your booking. If you have the test & trace app, please scan the QR code. If you'd like to buy some food for the animals or make a donation then let them know.

You can now follow the directions provided for your tour of the main yard, maintaining a minimum 2m distance from our staff/volunteers/students and from other visitors. Please be aware of narrow pinch-points. This is a circular route, and you can go around multiple times if you like.

The person who makes the booking is responsible for ensuring that everyone in their party understand and comply with our farm rules:-

  • Walk on the farm, save running and playing for the picnic area
  • Be quiet and gentle around the animals
  • Do not climb on fences or put anything through the fence
  • Only feed our animals the food we supply
  • Have your food / drinks in the picnic area
  • Leave your pets at home, working assistance dogs are welcome
  • Only enter a pen if invited by one of our team
  • Listen to any instructions from our team
  • Pregnant women should not touch sheep or goats

Wash your hands when you leave the main yard area at the sinks where you came in, especially before you eat or drink anything. Farm animals can harbour bacteria and viruses which are not killed by hand sanitiser.

You're now free to explore the market garden, picnic area, nature area, and can access our toilets and the 'top field' area where we have a new viewing platform.

The only indoor facilities available to visitors are the toilets located at the top of the farm - so please ensure you're dressed appropriately for being on a farm and for the conditions.

Our shop is currently closed, but our staff / volunteers can supply eggs, meat, and compost for you - check out for a list of what's available.

The picnic area is available before/after your visit. Drinks and snacks are not available from the shop but you are welcome to bring your own food/drinks to enjoy in the picnic area.
