Event Details

This course will provide an understanding of what it means to live with sight loss and the various types of sight conditions. It will also give you an awareness of the etiquette used to avoid discrimination and how to promote good customer service and interaction with colleagues and staff who have sight loss. Our highly interactive sessions make use of quizzes, DVDs, Virtual reality spectacles and thought-provoking exercises.

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for customer-facing staff and management, and also anyone who may come into contact with people who have sight loss.

Course content:

You will gain an understanding of:

  • Common eye conditions and how they affect people
  • The emotional impact of sight loss
  • How to safely guide a person with sight loss
  • Appropriate language and effective communication
  • Reasonable adjustments in compliance with the Equality Act 2010
  • How the built environment can enable or disable people.

If these are the types of questions you find yourself asking, then the course is for you.

  • What is the best way to support disabled people?
  • Will certain language cause offence?
  • How do I guide someone with sight loss?
  • How can I ensure my business is accessible for disabled people?
  • What adjustments do I need to put in place?

Delegates will leave with an appreciation of the needs of people with sight loss, understand the barriers they face when accessing services and have a better understanding of the best way to speak to, serve and interact with disabled customers and colleagues.

RNIB are also running a Pan-Disability awareness course on the morning of 5th December.  Why not make a day of it and ernoll on the course.

About RNIB

We’re one of the world’s leading disability agencies. With nearly 150 years’ experience of working with disabled people, we’re uniquely placed to offer solutions to the challenges your business faces.

 Our values

We strongly believe that a good product or service must be accessible to all, but our offering goes well beyond traditional models of corporate social responsibility.

We aim to help businesses to maximise the value of their products and services by opening them up to the 12.2 million disabled people in the UK. In fact, households which include a disabled person have a combined income of £212bn after housing costs, making this a market segment that no business should ignore.

What your business means to us

Our business services are an integral part of RNIB. We invest all of the income we receive back into the vital services we offer as a charity.

Our services directly provide support to people from the point they are diagnosed with sight loss, so no-one has to face the future alone. By working with us, not only are you going to engage a world class solution to your organisation’s accessibility needs, you’re also playing your part in supporting blind and partially sighted people in the UK.
