About this event

You are invited to the next Virtual Learning Café – part of the Youth Endowment Fund’s Evidence in Practice series.

This session will explore how youth work is currently reaching children from ethnic minority backgrounds, what approaches are proving effective in practice, and where gaps remain in provision and funding.

We’ll bring together national and local funders, commissioners, local authority leads, delivery organisations, and researchers for a conversation focused on what we know—and still need to learn—about how youth services are meeting the needs of Black, Asian and other ethnic minority children.

We’ll hear insights from youth work practitioners on culturally responsive models, learn about efforts to fund and scale effective practice, and identify opportunities for collaboration.

This is part of YEF’s exploring the different forms of evidence in the youth sector, particularly where there is the potential to reduce violence and improve outcomes for vulnerable children.

At the session, you’ll:

  • Hear what the evidence tells us about youth work’s reach and relevance for children from ethnic minority communities.
  • Explore promising practice models being used by delivery organisations.
  • Consider what culturally responsive and community-based practice looks like—and how it’s being funded.
  • Connect with peers who are funding, commissioning, or delivering youth services with a focus on equity and inclusion.

The event will run online using MS Teams on Wednesday 24th September 2025, 10:30-12:00.

We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice.
