Lily Dior

“Jazz and soul coexist in Lily Dior's repertoire, and in her vocal style…sassy, soulful, passionate and strong.” Rhythms Magazine

We are very pleased to welcome Lily back to the Chandos…Recognised as one of Australia’s finest singers, Lily Dior has shared the stage with a remarkable list of outstanding musicians from Australia and around the world and has performed at many of Australia's best venues including The Opera House Concert Hall, The State Theatre, Sydney Town Hall and The Domain.

The daughter of professional musicians who met and married in London, Lily spent her first five years touring the world with her parents who then settled in Australia.

In 2000 she travelled to New York to study with iconic jazz vocalist Mark Murphy, with whom she also ended up performing. That same year she was singled out by legendary arranger/pianist Dave Matthews to perform with The Manhattan Jazz Quintet, which included Bill Evans, Charnett Moffett, Victor Lewis, and Lew Soloff, at Sydney Casino's Lyric Theatre.

In an extensive and highly respected career Lily is now recognised as one of Australia's foremost vocalists, performing at major festivals and venues in Australia and around the world, including The Opera House Concert Hall, The State Theatre, Sydney Festival, Melbourne International Arts Festival, Wellington International Jazz Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Bellingen Jazz Festival, Christchurch Jazz Festival, Thredbo Jazz Festival, Darling Harbour Jazz Festival, Jazz in The Vines, Jazz in The Gardens and the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz.

International appearances include performances in New York, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong and of course London and she has shared the stage with a who’s who of world-class musicians including Airto Moreira, Oscar Castro Neves, Alex Acuña, Don Grusin, Dave Matthews, Mike Nock and James Morrison. She also includes numerous TV and radio appearances and hosted her own show on Sydney’s premier jazz station ‘Eastside Radio’ for over ten years. Tonight’s set will be a mix of familiar jazz standards with some classic and original “groove” orientated material thrown in for good measure.

“Rich in musicality and pure talent, Let’s Talk About It offers hints of Carole King, Aretha Franklin and Billie Holiday, all siphoned into the huge funky voice of Lily Dior” Emma Bartnett, Alternative Media Group

“The profound relationship between melody and lyric leaves these tunes permeating long after the disc has ended.” Peter Wockner, Jazz And Beyond

with Tim Lapthorn: piano • Jeremy Shoham: sax • Rick Finlay: drums • bass tbc

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There is on-street parking in the roads round the pub.
Colindale underground station (Northern Line) is a short walk away.

Can I pay on the night?
Yes, for those who haven't pre-booked there is a collection at the interval (although you won't be entitled to the discount on meals). We do expect you to contribute the normal admission fee unless you qualify for a concessionary rate.

Are there any concessions?
There is a lower ticket price for students in full-time education. Students and unwaged can also turn up on the night and pay whatever you like (or even nothing). We want you to be able to enjoy the music, and maybe you'll come back and pay the full admission in better times…

Accessibility
Deaf and disabled people can apply for an extra ticket, free of charge, if they would be unable to attend a gig or outdoor event without the active support of another person.
We encourage our audience to book online (we are too small to have a full-time box office) but if you have any difficulties booking on Eventbrite just call us on 020 8361 0265.

The Chandos Arms welcomes assistance dogs (or indeed all friendly dogs) on leads
